Animal Fascination doubled: Berlin Zoo and Animal Park   The Berlin Zoo is the oldest zoological garden in Germany. Opened in 1844 to the public, its origins date back to the 18th century to a collection of exotic animals of the Prussian Kings. Today, the Zoo of Berlin is one of the richest in species worldwide (approx. 14.000 animals in 1.500 species) - and it is situated in the heart of the city! The Animal Garden was founded during the time of the wall in East Berlin, in a former Royal Park. It is famous especially for its successes by elephants' and rhinoceroses births and its large variety of birds.
